The Business Risk Management is accountable for driving the effective governance and management of non-financial risks in the first line of defence. 

The successful candidate will report directly to the Group Chief Operating Officer and the main responsibilities will be the following: 

  • Provide Executive Leadership for the Business Risk function
  • Become the trusted advisor of Business Leaders and Functional heads, helping drive ef-fective and efficient management of business risk.
  • Lead risk-based first line of defence assurance testing of activity in key risk areas.
  • Ensure senior management is informed of and understands the nature of identified risks. Reporting must be focused, relevant and timely.
  • Drive the adoption of a constructive, proactive and forward-looking risk-based business risk culture.
  • Ensure the Risk Management Framework is embedded within the ways of working of the business.  Partner with 2nd line of defence leaders to ensure the risk management framework operates seamlessly, with minimal duplication and maximum impact. 
     

Key Accountabilities

 

Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the  BRM function
  • Be a key partner within the COO leadership team
  • Drive consistency of approach, behaviours and outcomes within the team
  • Create a centre of excellence for Business Risk Management, leveraging areas of expertise

Trusted Advisor

  • Become the point of reference for business risk advice
  • Support business leaders in ensuring commercial and operational activity is ap-propriately balanced with business risk awareness.
  • Act as the business risk specialist on projects and initiatives, in particular, regula-tory and emerging risk initiatives.
  • Help translate policy requirements into tactical initiatives
  • Escalate business risk issues, concerns and proposed mitigants, assertively and constructively

Assurance Testing

  • Lead risk-based assurance testing for key risk areas, undertaking both periodic and targeted risk reviews.
  • Report and escalate findings in a focused, constructive and timely manner.
  • Investigate the root cause of issues, incidents and complaints, proposing changes to the risk framework where required.

Management Reporting

  • Ensure management reports are timely, assertive, clear, constructive and rele-vant for the audience concerned.
  • Ensure recommendations are practical and demonstrate regulatory, commercial and client awareness. 

Business Risk Culture

  • Act as the centre of excellence and advice for Business Risk
  • Drive the evolution of a collaborative, embedded, dynamic, constructive and de-manding Business Risk culture
  • Help lead Business Risk training and workshops

Risk Framework

  • Work with leaders across all lines of defence to embed a clear, efficient and ef-fective Risk Framework
  • Ensure the framework is proactive and forward looking, working with the 2nd line to identify emerging risks and mitigating actions / controls, where required. 
  • Assist the first line in developing appropriate processes and controls which ensure risks pertinent to the business are identified, analysed, measured, monitored, managed, reported and kept within the limits of the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Work with all key stakeholders to ensure business activities are in compliance with external and internal requirements
  • Drive the evolution of controls, with a view to them being seamlessly embedded within business processes, wherever possible and appropriate.

Knowledge and Experience

 

  • A successful track record as a Head of BRM with significant experience of operating at a senior level and delivering across a complex, matrixed and multiple jurisdictional organisa-tions, using business understanding to advise on strategic and operational matters. 
  • Broad-based experience of the financial ser-vices industry and private banking expertise specific to Quintet’s current and evolving business.  
  • Deep and broad knowledge in Business risk management ideally gained through experi-ence in the private banking sector. Strong knowledge of all elements of a Business risk management framework as well as a thor-ough understanding of relevant regulatory re-quirements and best practice.
  • Strong change leadership experience; able to lead on detailed frameworks, policy and pro-cess as well as drive implementation.  
  • A customer focused perspective preferably gained within a matrix-managed fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Collaboration & Partnership with the various lines of defence within an organisation
